The Springfield Capitals Hockey Organization has been providing a fun and safe environment for boys and girls ages 4 through 18 to learn the game of hockey since 1982. The Springfield Capitals began as a merger of teams from 16 Acres, Holy Cross and Van Horn Park, and has enjoyed successful teams since its' inception. The Capitals Organization focuses on respect, fun and good sportsmanship in a team environment. Our littlest group of players are ages 4 - 6 can participate in an instructional LEARN TO SKATE program. Once the LEARN TO SKATE program has been completed, some 6 year old children may participate on a SPRINGFIELD CAPITAL MITE DIVISION team. MITE DIVISION is designed for children age 6- 8 who want to learn to play hockey in a team environment. Teams are divided by age and skill. Mites are coached by adult volunteers who are USA Hockey certified. Teams have 2 practices per week and usually 1 or 2 games each weekend competing in the Greater Springfield Hockey League. SQUIRT DIVISION is a slightly more competitive environment for youngsters ages 9 & 10. Players are beginning to learn the strategies and improve on the skills which they need to effectively participate. Some players are new to the game in this division, but some players have played for a year or two in the MITE DIVISION. Teams are coached by adult volunteers who are USA Hockey certified.
